I have just had a look on the OCUK GTX 690 page and found this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=1914&subid=1966

This is the first time I have ever seen them with no stock.

Is the GTX 690 coming up to EOL

Will the new R9 290X be so fast as to make buying a GTX 690 pointless

I have also checked and one of OCUKs competitors also have very little stock of GTX 690s.

A GTX 690 will still outperform a R9 290x from the benches we have seen so far but at £800 it is at a stupid price point.

Makes sense as Nvidia are now on the 700 cards. Be interesting to see if they replace it with a 790 equivalent to take the performance crown back from the 7990.

If its on a 256bit bus i doubt that would happen (faster than a 7990), even with slapping 2x770's on a single pcb.

If they put 2x780's on a pcb though, then thats a different matter. :p

The old GTX 690 is actually closer to 2x770's than it is to 2x680's anyway. By that I mean the GTX 690 has always had better vram chips than the stock GTX 680. So putting two GTX 770's on a PCB is a bit of a non starter.

Two GTX 780's is also going to be difficult because of the power consumption.

Maybe NVidia just won't bother with a replacement until the next gen of cards.

I don't think NVidia are selling a lot of GTX 690's anyway compared to GTX 780s.

I posted about this the other day when the was only one left at OcUK, it does seem a tad ominous doesn't it :P

Perhaps retailers are expecting Nvidia to drop GTX690 prices after AMDs new cards launch or release a new version with GTX770 features (turbo boost 2.0, etc).

Power/heat wise the GTX780 runs ~ the same as a 7970 so while a GTX780x2 would run hotter than a GTX690 it would probably be on par with a HD7990 power/heat wise.

IIRC the reason they made the GTX780 was because the Titan sold more in its first month or two than the GTX690 had since its release.

Come on, that 512bit bus is not THAT super important, even though its "AMD exclusive" so far.. Fanboy :p

I doubt they will put 2x 780s, unless the card is like 80cm long. Maybe.. DUAL TITAN POWERRRRR?
