Is the I7-3930K still a solid chip?

Currently using a system that has one of these in it, and am still more than happy with its performance despite its age. But how does it stack up against more modern chips in the real world?

There doesn't seem to be much difference between the 3930K and 5820K on CPU boss so would it be worth it to upgrade?

Can you guys recommend any bulletproof overclocking guides for beginners? I have absolutely zero clues about that stuff?

So hold on with my 3930K and Asus Sabertooth x79 board would I get a bottleneck with gpu performance if I went above the 970 I've currently got with a 1070 or 1080 when they get released?

If I could get my hands on a 4930k cheaply, would that work in my current mobo? Would that solve any bottleneck?

You are in the same position I am in, although I don't have a 3.0 card to test it with. From what I have found out it seems that if you have a C1 revision you can in theory get 3.0, but if you have a C2 revision then it shouldn't be a problem. It seems that AMD cards should work without having to do anything and NVidia cards should work with a program they released or a reg edit.

See what revision you have and if its C2 run the program found on this page: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answ...sion/L3RpbWUvMTM0MDIyMzU2OC9zaWQvaDEzbE45X2s=

According to CPU-Z I have a revision 1 mobo...

I'm going to start a new thread in general regarding upgrade options for my set up even though its going to be another couple of months before I can do anything

So basically if I do make the jump to a 1080 I just need to run a registry hack before installing the updated drivers for the card and everything should be okay with no bottleneck?
