Is the latest version of Firefox utter garbage for anyone else?

Before it automatically updated a few weeks ago it was fine but lately it's just been unreliable and horrible. Normally after i've watched a youtube video it just crashes and freezes and I have to kill the task.

Hope it's not just me?

Just you :p Flash crashing should only crash the plugin anyway, an occurrence that's been gradually reducing imo.

I don't think it's just you. I've stopped using it in the past few days because it got so bad. Using up way too much memory and also... For some reason it appears to freeze or lagg every 5 seconds or so. The cursor just freezes as you continue typing and then finishes the rest of what you are typing once the lagg is over.

I also noticed that it was happening with videos as well so I've switched back to Google Chrome. Much faster and much less memory hog.

i have always been a huge fan of firefox - since first release.

the last few updates have been so bad, my browser is soo slow and unresposnsive.
I liked it most due to the huge range of addons but I have actually moved to go google chrome for the time being, and i to be honest dont think i will ever turn back.

try it out!

Fyi chrome will use far more memory and gpu than firefox does, that's why it's always scored so well in (pointless) browser benches, it simply uses all available resources when it needs them. Other browsers are catching up slowly, but chrome likes to keep it in the back ground e.g. cached memory or the actual cache taking up many GB of data on the hd (something FF wont do).

Bottom line, find something that works for you, if it stops working find something else. I should point out however, that lifehacker tested browsers a couple weeks back and actually had opera as the quickest believe it or not. Really has come a long way that one.

I have similar issues with FF for the last few releases. They have been unstable with regular crashes, freezes and heavy memory usage. Used it for years but seriously considering changing.

I haven't liked FF for the past few releases which has made me convert to Google Chrome indefinitely. (Until firefox improves their game again or something better comes along) :D

I've had a lot of Flash hangs on Firefox lately. Killing the plugin process unhangs it, but still very annoying. A year ago I was a staunch defender of Firefox... now I use Chrome more often than not!

....when I copy and paste a link (URL) into an email - using Firefox 7

...why does it not create a hyperlink?

Firefox was my browser of choice for years but somewhere along the line they managed to make it a bloated piece of kit. I know it's better in the last few versions but still it doesn't make me go back since I switched to Chrome. The only time I use it is for the Firebug extension when developing webpages.

Firefox was causing my graphics card to crash, and the only option was to "Disable hardware acceleration".

Lately I've just not been impressed with it, the past few releases have added nothing but hassle.

IndexRated, are you referring to when you play flash videos - ie: Youtube, BBC iPlayer and the likes?

If so, Nvidia have released BETA drivers which have completely solved this problem for me.

From the release notes of v285.27:
Supports GPU-acceleration for smoother online HD videos with Adobe Flash.

Could be, I usually always have Flash in some form of another up, I've seen no unusual side effects or slow downs from disabing hardware acceleration. I prefer the alpha builds of drivers :)

Although thanks for that, and for looking.

Yes it does, it's called Ad-Block funnily enough :p

Install it then use the Brown Pyramid it puts in the address bar on the right to block/unblock
