Hi all

Just curious to know peoples views on this router, im currently with sky and i find there standard router kinda lame and restricted. I remember from my virgin BB days they supplied me with a DG834G V5 router and i was tempted to give it ago the only problem being i cant seem to find it at the mo!

Im looking for a new router and thought this could be a cheap option maybe from the bay if i cant find my old one or i would have to maybe look at the more expensive Billion 7800n router which is rather pricey.

Hope you can help,

many thanks

Liam

My experience of the v5 was disappointing, but I was an early purchaser so probably got a rushed to market device with associated issues.

The Conexant chipset didn't sync at full 8128 kbps (ADSL Max) like previous revisions of DG834G.

Had Wi-Fi issue of no signal if used button to turn off/on Wi-Fi. Router had to be restarted for Wi-Fi to come back to life.

This may have all been corrected now, as I was using firmware V6.00.25 (at the time Netgear website only listed V6.00.21, and I tried that too). Or it may have been a faulty unit.

As the DG series has been superseded by DGN series, I would probably skip it unless going very cheap.

Thanks for that guys, been doing a lot of router hunting today and i am tempted to give the billion 7800n ago but kinda put off by the large price tag of it

Find out what chipset Sky use on there DSLAM. Generally best to match the routers chipset to that.

You normally want routers with the Broadcom chipset and if I remember correctly the v5 has the Conexant one.
