Is the Nikon p310 the best compact?

Hi,

Looking to pull the trigger today! I have about 200 to spend and I am needing a genuinely compact camera (that can happily fit in a girl's bag) but also takes really good pictures!

Is the p310 the best or is there something a lot better for a bit more?

I've just got one for my mums Christmas present. Had a quick play and it appears to perform well. But then I'm used to compacts just like she is.

I have genuinely been doing lots of research but the better compacts are quite a bit more money and are not exactly "compact".

I think the p310 will be a big step up from her Canon ixus 130?

In my research the p300 and 310 are fantastic compacts. And incredible value. They seem to be the best bang for buck by far.

But, and it's a big but, they don't shoot raw. Which is no problem to your average novice photographer not interested in serious photo editing.
