is the pc gaming world profitable?

I just base my view on the fact console games are normally leaked a week before release, more people game on consoles? Consoles are dead easy to hack today, you can even pay someone to do it for like £10-£15 so I very much doubt there is much between them.

This is just my own view. Also these stats come from where??? Torrent sites??? FTP scene groups and that database of users can't even be tracked for stats.

Totally and undeniably false. Also, your misuse of the word 'stronger' should be a ban-worthy offence.

Keyboard Ninja??? Bit harsh just for someones "view". Not sure if you are joking around or not but hey ho.

Point is, you dont need to hack a pc to play a pirate game. Console games are copied as its generally just a 1:1 copy, no attempt to crack, etc etc. As thats all done console side. Also how many stores now stock PC games vs Console games. Access is more abundant. Only takes some Asda clerk with a laptop and you get early uploads.

Simply put. Your claim that Console piracy is stronger than PC is miles off target.

Im considering pirating crysis 2 as i can no long use my bought version as i have re-formated my pc too many times........

Way to go crytek !!! BRAVO!

Would probably explain the 5 million pirates as probably half of them have bought it in teh 1st place :o

PC gaming is dead because no one makes decent strategy or RPG games anymore, and everything else we get is just console games with larger textures.

Where exactly is my Railroad Tycoon 3 sequel? Or rollercoaster tycoon, dungeon keeper, populous, baldurs gate etc.

I just don't know why they don't make awesome games anymore :(

Its got to be very profitable, paradox is mainly a PC Publisher with only a few terrible console games and they are still around. I don't think people realise how much console piracy happens, you can buy a £50 console and get it hacked easily, I know lots of people who have 2 Xbox's 1 hacked and one for online.

I think they have 2 because one is bound to break ;)

I think PC gaming can be profitable, take steam sales for example. World of Warcraft?

Kickstarter projects, the indie scene and chris roberts new site died under the strain of people trying to view and pledge.

Do all those successes mean that its not profitable?

in my opinion pc gaming is more popular in the older people rather then the younger kids who dont really want all of the hassle of setting up a gaming pc..but its deffo not dead

My kids all have consoles in their bedrooms. I setup a small gaming rig as a test, it is a Q6600, 4gb ram with a 5870. My boys actually play the PC more then the console now but my daughter won't go near the PC at all. My boys are aged 4 and 8. Right now they are playing scooby doo on the pc co-op although they are using 360 pads :p

PC gaming is no way near dead.....its just evolving.

Piracy is rife, but I still would say its worse on PC than Console....but thats just my experience.

Also Genre is important here.....PC is the king of MMO and the player base for that is huge and that isnt very easily pirated, unless you play on private servers which isnt the same IMO.

It will never die.

No different to getting a PS1 chipped then. I don't know of anyone personally who has a hacked console or pirates console games, and yet when the PC gaming scene was bigger I knew plenty of people who did it, including myself.

That you need to physically modify your console to accept copied games should suggest that piracy isn't going to be more common than on the PC, where any PC anywhere can play any pirated game.

piracy on pc might be bigger but pc gaming is much more popular compared to consoles.

That'll be why PC games have virtually no presence in physical retail space these days, then. Unless you're including Facebook games as "PC gaming", in which case you may have a point.
