is the pc gaming world profitable?

Do people honestly believe that?

I honestly do.

I personally don't think this as there are many consoles out there. It may be bigger than any 1 individual console but not all of them combined.

There are a lot of consoles yes, but there are only 3 major ones (that's only if you include the Wii) and maybe all 3 combined are bigger than PC gaming, maybe I should have said PC gaming is bigger than any one console.

It isn't the only measure at all. Not to mention the fact that Steam is an app that, for many people, loads when their PC starts whether they're actually using Steam or not.

There's no difference there than turning your Xbox/PS3 on and just idling, which I'm sure a lot of people do, I know I did and so did many of my friend's when I owned an Xbox/PS3.

Of course there's a difference, a lot more people leave their PCs idling or are using it for other things. Of course, consoles can be used for more than just games these days too, but it goes without saying that the idle number of Steam users will be a far higher proportion than on consoles. I don't know of anyone that just turns on their console for the hell of it.

Seriously?

Are you honestly saying that as many people leave their xbox on the dashboard than have their pc turned on? The xbox is a gaming console, thats why people turn it on.

PC however is used for many things. How many student are logged into steam for 14 hours and only play for 2?

i don't beleive it for a second that piracy is stronger on consoles, any source?

Which is cheaper to buy as a whole?

a gaming pc for £500-£600 or a modded console for £150?

both have pirated games but you get pirated games for consoles weeks before release and the outlay is cheaper as u pay £150 vs £500.

A pirate usually plays pirated games to save money

Yes I know a lot of people that just leave there consoles on, they will play a game for half an hour, exit the game and just stay online then play maybe 2/3 hours later. Maybe not as many but it does happen.

I know nobody that leaves their console on when not in use. Through fear of it dying!! But also because it takes exactly 5 seconds to go from off to gaming.

It's certainly profitable. When Alan Wake finally made it to the PC they said it covered all its development costs and made a profit within the first day iirc.

So this argument has reached that stage where people start making up any old nonsense to try and save credibility. I see.
