Is the sigma 35 mm 1.4 a lot better than canon 35 mm F2

If you can afford the Sigma, get the Sigma.

Not tried both. Tried the 35mm Canon f1.4 before I bought the Sigma. Just get the Sigma it's awesome for the price.

Unless you're shooting video, then yeah, the Sigma.

What are you looking for in a lens? The 35 f/2 is a great lens, especially if you want a small compact kit. It's significantly smaller and lighter than the Sigma. Do you need the extra 1-2 stops the sigma will bring? Are you shooting on full frame or crop?

Hi Amp,shooting FF and I don't believe its essential for the extra stops .I do like the idea of the smaller lens for street.

I've got both (the old Canon 35f2, not the newer IS), the Sigma is better but it should be as the more expensive lens. The newer 35f2 IS I can't comment on as it doesn't interest me.
