Is the upgrade from DDR3 to DDR4 for gaming worth it?

Looking into getting a new CPU, MOBO and with the mobo upgrade, comes the choice of DDR4 , and this being said preferably future proof.

So, I was wandering and doing some research, is it worth the jump? I see that DDR4 will be put to most use next year, and keep in mind my build is mainly for Gaming.

Thanks.

There is no point going from what you have to a new setup. Gains will be absolutely minimal.

As far as DDR3 to DDR4 is concerned, no there is barely any difference outside of benchmarks. Very much like slow DDR3 vs fast DDR3. :)

If you have the itch, get a used 3770K and overclock it. :)

I still have an i7 2700K. I was going to upgrade to a new system when DDR4 and Skylake came out, but after looking at benchmarks, it would just be a good way to throw money away.

nothing wrong with your system for gaming, only upgrade when you need to.
if you finding your struggling with things then the time is here.

DONT get an i7 for your system. that would be an upgrade and there is no need or point to upgrade old tech now.
i used i7 is the same cost as a new none K i5 and the new i5 will kill and old i7. you can also overclock the none K cpu's now so it would destroy your system.

As said above if you're going to shed cash on an older i7 you may aswell just upgrade to a cheap skylake i5/mobo/ddr4 and bclk overclock it, you'd be better off just getting a better gpu however having said that a 780ti is still very capable with only the vram starting to become an issue

depends how overclocked his/my card is and a 970 has less power consumption/heat as well, no where did i say he should upgrade to something like a 970 anyway. That would be a pointless upgrade.

Mine also has flashy lights ;)

evga 780ti also has flashy light's....

So what shot he upgrade to???? if not a 970 than 980 / 980ti?
may as well set wallet on fire... his rig is fine. spend money on beer and games.

Yeah but they're not rgb lights :p
And I know it's fine, I'm just suggesting that should he want to upgrade he'd be better off getting something like a 980 ti right now. I never demanded that he upgrade this instant did I

Ofcourse the sensible option would be to spend your money on some thing more useful but after all we are computer enthusiasts and this is what we do is it not?

I suggest upgrading your boot drive to a Samsung 950pro made a world of difference to how snappy your system feels and load times. I too was considering an upgrade to new tech but after this I am going to hold off a while.
