Just find it odd that msn refuses to sign in and when i try to connect to check for vista updates i get this error:

"Windows could not search for new updates" errors found code: 80072f8f

Both are MS products, both rely on the same dns cluster, not so strange they would vanish in a "netsplit" sort to speak. :D

One of my mates is having a similar problem - cant access any "live" pages like login.live etc nor sign into update or messenger.

Seems like its just people in certain areas affected.

The Windows Live Messenger service is reportedly inaccessible by various users around the world. Reports are also prevelant of other Windows Live ID-supported sites not functioning, such as Hotmail, MSN Web Messenger and Microsoft Connect.

Service reliability has been hit hard in recent months, with a number of outages lasting over 3 hours and affecting more than 75% of the user base. Whilst Microsoft is usually quick to respond internally through their Hi-Pri incident system msnalerts, the public are rarely notified through the expected channels such as the Service Status page or other Microsoft sites.

More soon.

Update: Service availability appears to be improving, but 100% availability is yet to be achieved.

Update: Service is returning to normal, no problems for users now trying to connect.
