Hey guys, bit of a silly question, but is the Windows 8 DVD locked to the serial number given in the box?

The reason i ask, is because my gf is going to buy the Windows 8 upgrade via download.

She's downloading via her laptop to transfer to her desktop (she'll be downloading the setup file, not making an iso)

If for some reason she's not allowed to do it, can she use my DVD and use the serial code that she'll be given to install?

Thanks

No you can use any install media, apart from things like when they're tied to OEMs as you get with some prebuilt systems.

Thanks guys.

Just a little update, she did the upgrade assistant, and it gave her the download.

As she's running 64bit on her laptop, it gave her the 64bit download.

Her pc is 32bit, so when she transferred the file over, it wouldn't install, and asked for the 32bit version.

So i'll be giving her my 32bit DVD, and she'll use the key they gave her.

So thankfully we can do it this way, otherwise she would have wasted £25.

If you're wondering why she never just did it straight from the pc, well basically we put the preview on, and it didn't like her netgear wifi usb, so she couldn't connect to the internet, and she doesn't have a long enough ethernet cable, or home plug to reach the router downstairs.

Cheers again!

You can download both the 32 and 64 bit versions using the same key (email link). You just need to be running 32 or 64 bit windows to request the downloads.
