Hi Guys

Can you help me with this is there a difference between the AMD x2 3800+ psu's:

ADA3800DAA5CD

ADA3800DAA5BV

Cheers

the only difference will be overclocking potential. Which i do not know. There is only one version of the 3800+.

top one is a retail toledo with half the cache disabled so 512k per core, 2nd one is an oem manchester which has 512k per core also. apparently the manchesters clock better

You said iun one of your other posts you wont be clocking so just get the cheapest, they will perform exactly the same

Well, when I ordered my X2 3800+, it was supposed to be the ~BV (Manchester), but actually turned up as the ~CD (Toledo) core.....(should that be cores :D :D )......anyhow, mine happily clocked and although I had requested an RMA I figured that 2.5GHz without any real effort was good enough to keep !!

IMHO, it is a lot down to luck of the drawer with the actual CPU you receive.....there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive and infallible answer either way.

Consider the two schools of thought on the Toledo core 3800 + :

One : Better/Faster/more expensive chip, deliberately having half cache disabled to meet demand for 3800s..... = good buy :) as CPU likely capable of getting right back up to 4400/4800 speeds with little effort.

Two : Inferior chips from yield, possibly cache etc. defects and rather than binning the chips just making good use of as budget offering (a la ATI and their GTO variants of GFX cards)

Hhhhhhmmmmm ;)
