With the trackpad, if you use 5 fingers starting in a pinch position and then expand like open your hand, all the windows and programs on screen goes to the edge exposing the desktop.

Is there a keyboard short cut for this without the need of gesture?

F11 is the volume down button though.

I thought that was thumb plus three fingers?

Used to be F11 under the old Exposé system.

probably but I use all 5 and it works

EDIT - reassigned to F6, it wasn't doing anything anyway. :)

Depends on the keyboard. The F-keys are a sub-function on the later keyboards, so it defaults to Fn+Fkey as the primary is the special function. There's a system preference to turn it off. The non-slimline type like I use on the Mac mini don't have the media buttons shared with the F-keys so just work.

On my 2009 Unibody MacBook keyboard, if I press CMD and what used to be my exposé button (f3) it does what you are asking. I'm guessing this would do the same on the newer versions of the keyboard.

It's both thumb & 3 finger flick and thumb & 4 finger flick (I guess it just ignores the extra finger :)). And, as you say, F11 on old keyboards and fn+F11 on newer ones.

In addition, I have it set to middle mouse button. Which is really handy when I forget all about it :D

CMD + F3 is a nice catch :) (You've got me fiddling around with all the modifiers now, there're some really handy ones with Option/Alt for system prefs relating to the face button you're pressing)
