Anyone?

Been playing the original today. And god it's a belter (well for a 1995 game)

I was hoping for a fan remake somewhere or even some decent mods for the. Original but. Nothing :(

Is there. A decent modern equivilant anywhere ?

You mean aside from the 2005 version? If someone was to make a decent modern pirate game I would be all over that like a fly on poo.

Spent a good few hours Sunday playing Pirates and it is really great fun.

I quite like Bethesda's attempt in 2005. I think of it as a trial run for oblivion except you sail a ship and have cannon battles. As well as normal on foot exploring and fighting...

pirates of the burning sea is worth playing, espeically for eve online fans. its basically eve with pirate ships instead of spacecraft.

Loved Pirates! on the Atari ST and the 2005 remake, would recommend Assassins Creed VI as someone mentioned above, heck you can ignore the story and just play. It's lacking the trading elements but the combat is fantastic fun.

They're working on a "pirate sim" now because the pirate elements proved so popular, more so than the assassin missions tbh.

Is bad of me to say that although I loved this game I used a cheat that makes you sail the same speed regardless of the wind direction? Wound me up no end trying to get somewhere and only travelling 1 knot per hour.

Never used any cheats myself (though I might have if I'd known about the sailing speed one). But I remember spending a long time carefully "managing" my crew size. If too much time had gone by and mutiny seemed likely to rear its ugly head soon I would attack a town over land and make sure lots of my crew were killed before I reached the walls. That would usually give me enough time to get to a nice "base" before dividing up the plunder, with the benefit that I'd get more of it for myself.

So what were people's favorite time periods and bases of operations? I tried quite a few combinations but always ended up going back to being English in 1660 and basing myself at St Kitts...

You can dump off cargo like rum & sugar for money, also I'd recommend doing the first few missions even if you don't enjoy them, diving bells, harpooning and the fleet mechanic are well worth progressing the story, makes it more of a pirate sim than just a ship sim with them.

Good news!

I actually enjoyed the slow bits of the game, you it tacked you could get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time so I never cheated, actually looking back on it I didn't even think about it.

Found it quite relaxing bobbing about planning my next attack!
