is there a need for a rubber seal?

hi,
just putting together a water cooler (single) just wondering if there is any need to use a rubber seal between the fan and cooler unit or is this a bit of overkill?

not really nope, it cant hurt if you have one to hand, but ive never used one and never had any problems with tempreture!

They're really only there for acoustic damping.

depending upon on how noisy it is, ill put 4 bits of rubber between them
