Hey guys,

Looking for a good 24" screen to be used mainly for games and picture editing. Have looked at the following, reading reviews from badass's site and others:

NEC 24WMGX3
HP LP2275w
Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP
NEC MultiSync LCD2090UXi

All very nice monitors, but it would also appear each have their achilles heel, mainly input lag letting gameplay down.

I probably would have gone for the NEC 24WMGX3 but I believe this is now an end of line product, so cant source one for love nor money.

I dont know if the A02 revision of the Dell has sorted its issues with much famed input lag out, I dont believe so after a few googles, but would be happy to be told otherwise.

I refuse to pay good hard earned money in the realm of 400 to 500 quid for something that just doesnt work as it should, or maybe it's me looking at something not designed for my requirements.

Any ideas/suggestions on suitable panels?

Much appreciated,
JP.

NEC 24WMGX3 - No longer available, very low input lag
HP LP2275w - Really good, reasonable input lag
Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP - Can't comment
NEC MultiSync LCD2090UXi - Really good, high input lag.

EDIT:I have the NEC 20. Very happy with it, but looking for something bigger, but not at the expense of quality. So curious to hear if anything is as good but bigger.

I've seen some online stores advertising the Nec 24, but £639. I dont mind paying for a decent monitor, but I seem to have a mental barrier to paying anything over £500.

Personally I would stay away from the Dell, my house mate purchased one for video editing and is pretty annoyed with it. The screen does change as you go from looking at it straight on to slightly from an angle which isn't the best for any editing.

Personally I'd look at the HP, the IPS screens I've used seem to be the best affordable for editing use after calibration. I'm using an older samsung 215tw S-IPS at home and work and it's very nice to use and I don't really notice the small amount of lag.

The HP is on my shopping list, well when I can justify it.

Since when was the GX3 EOL'd :( Hopefully mine won't go wrong sometime soon. I can't believe OCUK had them for £400, was such a steal.

The perfect 24" is the 2490WUXi.

Im pretty sure that's an S-PVA. S-IPS were made by LG, Samsungs main competitor (they share like 95% of the LCD-panel market between them). I'd be a bit like Audi making a car with a BMW-engine, if you know what I mean.

Oh yeah lol, forgetful memory. Well the S-PVA in the 215TW seems to suffer much less from the 0 degree contrast and colour shift that's in the 2408 screen.

I also skimmed the origional post, thought he was asking about the HP LP2475w which is what I'd look at getting, the NEC is just a bit more than I'd like to spend.

Since about two months ago. No problem though if yours goes wrong as if they don;t have any they have to send you a better monitor.

I am in the same position as you grumpybeard. Looking at the HP and the Dell, of which the HP does seem better.

So there might be something new coming out Greebo?

Currently the HP LP2475W is the one to get. HP have recently updated the screen from S-IPS to H-IPS improving the overall quality even more and reducing input lag from 31ms to 4ms. Input lag was the only slight issue with the older version of this screen.

I'm tempted to get one. Only risk is that HP havent changed anything on the model numbers so you might get the old version of the screen or you may get the new one. As long as the screen was made after March 09 then you should be fine.
