is there a point of me doing crossfire if my monitor only goes up 1920x1080 ?

Depends on the cards - but in most cases you'd see decent gains from cf at 1920x over a single card, but you might not even need dual cards depending on the card(s) you buy, your requirements and the games you play.

1920x1080 is a high resolution and you will definitely see a big difference with an extra card in most graphically intense games from the past few years.

i upgraded my packard bell imedia x2414 last month and put in a sapphire ati radeon 4890 overclocked version and 550w corsair PSU and want bulid some thing with more power. so I will be taking out those two to put in my new system when I build it.

Its always better going for 1 high end card than two low-mid end cards, as when you crossfire performance scalling is less than 100% (less than 50% actualy). Though at that resolution if you crossfire 2 high end cards (4870/4890) there would be a performance increase of around 30-40%.
