I'm not realllly clued up on monitors any more, but i recently purchased a Hyundai W240D PVA monitor and i cannot set my background resolution to 1920 x 1080 because when i do, it only does so at 30hz. However, when i use 1920 x 1200, it does so fine, and at 60hz. Any reason why this should be happening?

thanks

The native res is 1920*1200 and you really want to use that res if at all possible because it'll be sharper. If you want to play 1080p movies on it, your movie software should show the film using 1920*1080 pixels and leave a 60 pixel gap top and bottom (set the aspect ratio in your movie software to 16:9). You don't need to actualy select 1920*1080 res.

As for why it's 30Hz, in your ATI/Nvidia control panel thingy did you click 'add HD resolutions'? Those are really meant for using with HDTVs and won't be optimial for your screen. 1080p30 is a 1920*1080@30 Hz mode for 1080p movies, and 1080p60 is 1920*1080@60 Hz, but most moves (pal one anyway) are 30 fps, hence why 1080p30 exists.
