Tbh consoles just can't compete. I recently bought a PS3 to play GTA and was rather appalled at the quality of the visual experience. Both uncharted and GTA managed to look occasionally pretty but the blur, low res, terrible aliasing and occasionally dodgy slowdown marred the experience. Not that I didn't enjoy either (two great games) but I couldn't help but think how much better they'd look on a my PC.
I don't think consoles have ever had the lead (at least in this generation) from what i've seen the best they have to offer now can't stand up to 3 or 4 year old PC games.
