As per heading ? Keen to use some of the power in my 8800GTX for SETI. Had a quick search but didn't really find anything.

Nope, I've heard nothing about a SETI GPU client.

Have you considered running the Folding@Home GPU client? It's pretty easy to set up, it's doing lots of good scientific work and your GTX will give you some nice points.

Thanks guys. Hadn't thought about using it for Folding@Home, but may well consider it. Is the client stable ?

(edit) also how will it affect my SETI performace, does it use much CPU ?

The CPU usage depends on your OS I believe - one time when 64-bit Vista is actually an advantage I've heard with only a part of one core needed.

What's your CPU and your OS?

The nVidia client uses about 10% of one core on Vista, so will barely affect your SETI at all. Some people have got the usage that low on XP, where some people have found it to use more CPU. Try it :)

The client's been really stable for me, never crashed once. Do make sure you install the right nVidia drivers or it probably won't work.

Thanks for the link to the drivers, installed the client, but got some fatal errors. I'm using 175.19 so that might explain it.

Using Vista 64 bit with a Q6600 GO.

Ok, just installed 177.84, seems to be working fine. It only seems to be using 3-5% of CPU !

I take it there is nothing more to it than just installing the client and letting it do it's work ? (I've set up user id and associated it to Team 10 !).

Finally got to hear my 8800GTX fan doing some work ! Surprised how quiet it is really....

Yeah, that's pretty much it! If you want an easy way to monitor the client, download FahMon if you haven't already. My guide for setting it up with the GPU client is at the bottom of this page. (Ignore the stuff about modifying the drivers.)

Cheers Mattus. I left it running last night but system blue screened. Looking into what casued that !

I've got FahMon installed and working, what's a decent PPD total ? Benchmark is telling me around 4600 ppd.
