Is there a tool to help me choose an CPU upgrade?

I have a 6910p and it has a T7300 CPU. I've been offered a T7700 CPU and whilst I know there isn't a massive differencfe, an upgrade is still an upgrade.

What I'm looking for is some sort of table / tool to tell me what the maximum CPU is I can use. i.e., can my HP 6910p run a later CPU from a different stable or is the T7700 about it?

I guess, what I'm asking is, if my laptop is socket 'P'. Could it run a mobile quad core for instance?

Is this any good? linky , in theory if you match the FSB to your existing one and use the same type of core you should be ok.

I upgraded a laptop recently from a T7100 to a T7700 with no problems. I think you will struggle with quad core though, we tried a fairly recent 8000 series acer and it would not take a quad.

I have a PM965 chipset, in theory, I can upgrade to at least the following:

x9000
T9500
T7800

All are 2.6Ghz 800Mhz but two are 45nm one is 65nm. The current cpu is 65nm but apparently, my laptop, Compaq 6910p can take either
