Is there a way around this?

Hi all,

I have a couple of computers and my PS3 connected to my router (DG834GT). The computers are wired in and the PS3 is connected by WiFi to it.

Now, when my girlfriend is on the computer for example, loading a web page, it will make the online game I am playing stutter sometimes.

Now, I appreciate this is because it is downloading images on the webpage thus taking up bandwidth.

Is there any way to limit how much of the connection a device connected can use for example, so it isn't affected by other goings on, or any settings that can be adjusted that may help this?

Could it be that the router is old and may be slightly faulty (it doesn't work perfectly lets just put it that way), do newer ones do a better job of controlling traffic etc?

Check if your router supports QoS (Quality of Service) or traffic/bandwidth management. QoS prioritises latency sensitive traffic (e.g. gaming, VoIP) so it doesn't get delayed by less important traffic (e.g. normal web browsing). Bandwidth management is on the better router models and lets you set particular clients to have lower priority or limit their maximum bandwidth.
