Just eyeing up the HS10W 150W Yamah sub, £360 though...

I've played with asus control board to add more bass and the monitors (HS50's) are now sounding better...

Just tried to get the monitors outputting stereo and the sub to do bass only but it didn't work:(

Is there any way to mod the Z5400 sub to control monitors? Cos the monitors are powered themselves so it SHOULDN'T blow up the sub?! looool
i.e. make my own wires etc....

OR does anyone think the £360 odd is worth it on the yamah sub with a view to setup 5.1 one day? for gaming and spotify premium (i.e. 320kbs audio)

5.1 with accurate monitors, sweet yeh? I cba with DAC and amps etc even though it sounds brilliant lol

hope this makes sense, in short, fuse logitech gear with yamaha monitor gear

PS: oh and I get strange noises from with no music playing? 3.5mm jack to phono jack splitter for stereo to the speakers. the speakers seem to be getting loads of interference? faulty wire or environement?

cheers

It's quite tricky, as your monitors are active, so you wont be able to simply hook them up the the 5.1 amp contained within the logitec sub.

You could bypass the amp on the yamaha monitors and run them pasivley from the subs built in 5.1 amp, as you would with the passive logitec fronts, but I dare say you would not be doing the yamahas any favours in terms of quality as they are not exactly cheap satelites, and the fact they are active-bi-amped further complicates the issue.

I would suggest losing the rear speakers and running the yamahas from the stereo out on your PC and then running the logitech sub as a standalone from the subwoofer out on the pc, and setting your PC to 2.1

Having said that, if your prepared to spash the best part of £400 on just a sub, (which to be honest is a bit mad if you ask me, considering the rest of your set-up) you would be better off just cutting your losses and flogging the logitec stuff as a full 5.1 package, flogging the active monitors, and then investing in a decent sound card, cables, proper hi-fi amp, and suitable speakers & sub.

The kit you have, whilst good, is not really suited for what you want to use it for.

cheers fella.

I like the monitors now with bass turned up in EQ

It's just this blasted crackling interference with high-pitched whine that I can't get rid of.

I even tried wrapping the yamah input leads around a ferrous circular file I had but it didn't help.

Other wise I would be running them straight from the soundcard if it weren't for this issue;(
