Is there a way to stop java installing?

This is for a family pc, i don't want java run because it's a potential security problem and an annoyance, it's all too easy for it to be installed from the web browser, so what can i do?

if your family are using standard user accounts and not administrator accounts I don't think Java will be able to install.

In Vista and W7, UAC should prompt you to enter administrator credentials before installing, on XP I think it will just give an error message and not install.

No java on windows 7 here, never been prompted to install it, I am sure there are some things i am missing out on, but to date I haven't found one.

Yeah i thought UAC would stop it but it doesn't look like it did, im unsure how it got on there.

I didn't realise I had Java installed until about a week ago when it poped up in a virus scan

What annoys me about Java is the way that it asks to install Google toolbar every time it updates :mad:

The thing which updates every 2 months or so? Hardly a hassle unchecking a couple of boxes once every other month
