Is there a way to stop the neighbors hearing my TV?

Moving into a new house next week. Currently the TV is in a weird spot of the house. We want to move the TV into the corner of the house however it is directly next to the party wall and I know their lounge is located next to where the TV would be.

Is the sound of the TV as loud from the back? Is there a way to minimise the noise they might hear without sound proofing? Dont want to annoy the neighbours if we have just moved in.

Think our TV is against the wall that our neighbors would be sat against, they haven't moaned yet.

It's not attached to the wall mind. Can probably get some sound dampening panels, but it's going to be vibrations that they hear....we can hear the neighbours kid run up and down the stairs for instance :p

Should be fine, the sound waves are travelling forwards. They may hear more if it pointed the other way.

Sub vibrations are one to watch.

You could buy a soundbar and move that away from the wall. Combination of that and the speakers in the soundbar facing directly forwards should help

No the neighbours will not hear you watching those dodgy Japanese videos as long as you keep the volume down. haha

in all seriousness there's more things as a neighbour I would be more worried about than the sound of a TV :) i.e building works every day and loud music.

No soundbars are significantly louder than TV speakers and with significantly better bass usually.

If your neighbors can hear your TV using TV speakers then your house is made of cardboard.

You should be able to hoover without your neighbors hearing.

The last thing he needs is a soundbar. Wireless headphones would be a much better shout before a soundbar

Wireless headphones? I think he is looking to be courteous not a weirdo lol. Family TV team... everyone grab your headphones!

Soundbars are a good shout in that the speakers are very much directional as a lot of TVs have to mount the speakers in an odd place.

Edit: I use a soundbar for the same reason and your point about Bass is correct - luckily the Sonos Beam has an app to tone it down.

Bass capability depends on the soundbar, and if its louder, then surely just turn it down? Or is your soundbar like those ones from Spinal Tap....

What's the point in the soundbar then?

Just use the TV speakers
We covered that already. See how thin the bezel of your TV is? Guess where the speakers are located. It also sounds crap.

At least you get better sound all of the time and can turn the bass down when it's considerate to do so.

Edit: if you seriously don't have proper speakers I strongly suggest a Sonos beam. Game changer from tinny TV speakers, bass on low or not.

On the LG they are Harmon kardon and placed at the bottom. No idea where they are on the Sony.

Doesn't really matter to me as I use neither.

However I've never had a TV that I would consider a nuisance to neighbors but I do live in a detached home but even if I didn't there are no TV speakers imo regardless of their position which would annoy neighbors at a normal setting.

Sure cranking them up to 100 may do it depending on the TV. Like I said before do you buy sound dampening and create a bubble around your hoover?

I'd love to be shown a TV that's so loud that it's built in speakers annoy neighbors at normal volumes.

Please do link it.

I'm well versed in speakers, amps, DACs, etc. My bedroom setup is better than most people's living room setups and my living room setup is better than most others surround sound setups.

However when I moved in I got rid of my old avr and whilst awaiting a new one i used the TV speakers.

The LG has one of the best built in I've ever heard if not the best. Even then at normal volumes it wouldn't be of any concerns to a neighbor in a semi.

I live in a semi with my sub (a KEF Kube 1) literally right against the party wall and I've never had a problem or complaint. Whilst I'm sure the neighbours will be able to hear elements of explosions etc coming through the wall I simply moderate this by watching the TV at sensible times. I know they dont have young children next door and they work normal hours so I consider 19:00-22:00 to be essentially fair game. I of course dont have the speakers obscenley loud, but I've certainly had them turned up enough to enjoy what I'm watching in the past, but at the same time I'm considerate with it. I don't have it turned up every day, and for more normal things its at a level where I wouldn't expect them to be able to hear it, but I dont doubt for a second that when a big explosion goes off they cant hear it.

If they had young children, or worked nights, I'd moderate my listening accordingly, it's really just about being considerate and essentially par for the course if you live in anything other than a detached. The idea that they shouldn't be able to hear anything at all is mad imo, as long as you are sensible and considerate with what they can hear.

In my position in this house I would just go around and ask the neighbour if she could hear tv, (at my required volume) when I got a new dehumidifier I ran it overnight Afew times and checked but she heard absolutely nothing.
Mine is a semi but the living rooms are sensibly at opposite ends I.e bedrooms and bathrooms on both form a buffer zone, it's virtually like been in a detached but have a nice neighbour also
