Is there an app

Is there an app that allows you to see how many characters are in your text messages when typing and tell you if you are sending it as one or two texts?

I know there are dodgy ways but breaks the forum rules and mac rules but I'm not doing it that was and on 3.1.3 for the record.

So is there a legitimate app that does this?

I noticed that OS4 has it,

Hope I'm not breaking the rules (dont think I am) here as I'm fairly new to apple stuff and this chapter of the forums. but will OS 4 be available to put on older phones? obviously newer models will come with it as standard but can you upgrade like a computer os and I presume there would be a charge?

It will be available for all iPhones although not all the features will work on the older 2G and 3G models. There's generally no charge for software upgrades on the iPhone.
