I am trying to learn German. I did it in standard grade and have been contemplating relearning and taking it a step further ever since.
Does anyone have any techniques or advice on how to go about learning another language?

No, I'm terrible at languages :/ Some people seem to pick it up better than others.

See if theres any courses nearby? I seem to remember a thread where people recommended some audio CDs a few weeks back.

i think there are some cd/dvd's around, and the name is something like Rosetta Stone, never used them.

Worth a google i suppose.

i just had a google around and its a £140 per dvd for each of the levels (1,2,3) or £340 for all 3 :o

Michel Thomas was recommended in the last thread. I picked up the Spanish course and have listened to the first lesson a few times and i still forget things, think i'm a bit thick but that's nothing new :p

Frend of mine got that rosetta stone thing for german, I tried it a few times it is pretty clever the way you learn through pictures, theres no or very little english text so its sort of intuitive. Not sure I would spend that much tho, thats big bucks :(

There's no way to "easily" learn a language. Either you have an aptitude for languages, in which case with a bit of practice every day/every other day and someone to talk to you'll pick it up fairly quickly. If you don't have an aptitude, then it takes a lot longer and a lot of motivation on your part.

Best way is to go and live there, and go to those evening learning classes. You'd pick it up in no time. Helps if you are younger.
