Is there an easy way to remember how to wire a patch cable?

Not really, it's 8 cables which will always be white colour-colour-white colour-colour

Once you do a few it becomes natural, easier than a phone number.

And to some extent patch panels vary, so you have to follow what's printed on them.

Light orange, dark orange, light green, blue, light blue, green, light brown, brown.

Keep repeating it whilst your patching and it'll stick (I haven't patched for quite a few months now and remember that)

For plugs I just remember that it's blue in the middle with green to either side. The other two colours then go to the outside. You just then need to remember that it goes stripe/solid/stripe/etc. irrespective of colour.

Always Orange Pairs First. (WhiteOrange first in the pair)
Brown pairs last. (WhiteBrown first in the pair)

Then I just remember GB as in Great Britain for the second pair. Which is WhiteGreen + Blue. Then WhiteBlue + Green for the third pair.

Create a new folder on your phone. Put this image in it.

For a straight through cable it really doesn't matter what the colours are at each end as long as they are both the same colours for each pin out.
