Is there an issue with SATA and overclocking on the DS3?

My mate has just got a new machine, and fitted it earlier. It was orthos testing fine at 3.2GHz (400x8), for about 2 hours and a bit, then his screen went blank, and now when he reboots the machine it's not detecting his seagate hard drive. Tomorrow Im going to try changing the cable, and changing the SATA controller hes using on his board, as well as setting the board to default in case its an overclocking caused issue. I've also warned him his HD might have died as he may have recieved a faulty one, but Im hoping not.

Does anyone know if theres an incompatability above a certain fsb level with overclocking and SATA on this board, or one of the SATA controllers (theres the gigabyte ones, and the intel chipset ones)? Hes on an F10 bios, revision 3.3 board.

His HD was connected to one of the 4 Intel SATA ports, not the 2 Gigabyte SATA ports.

My friends machine was stressing the CPU at about 55-60 degrees, and the case should have been a much lower ambient as its large, and has a few decent fans

I just feel bad for my mate, as he'll have to wait longer if we need to RMA the drive, plus he may have lost some work he copied over
