On that compare all the popular places for you with input of your details once? At least an estimate will be good. Hopefully going to take my test in 2 weeks time and going to see how much my insurance is so I know how much to expect.

There are some - but I wouldn't even trust them to give you a rough estimate.

For example, I got a quote with Elephant and Admiral for ~£700, I tried Confused.com, and the lowest was £1300, and they said that Admiral/Elephant wouldn't quote me because I was too young.

Hmmmmm, for a year 2000 Ford KA 1.3 Petrol, the lowest I got from confused.com is £395 ish, not too bad for someone who just (hopoefully) passed their test. I was expecting to be a lot more than this, about twice as much.

How have you got it so cheap, how old are you?

Had some quotes from confused.com and then went direct to te insurer in question and saved £100 quid :o

Not used them since :)

I just want an idea, and if I can get another £100 off the £395 from confused.com then I will be over the moon ! £300 insurance (albeit 3rd party fire and theft) for a first time driver?

The aggregates don't always get the best quotes for a broker, as there are more factors to account for. Many internet quotes will also just blank you if you have adverse details (insurance refused or withdrawn, some classes of driving conviction), or are in a non-standard vehicle (parallel import, modified car), and could also give a refusal if the best scheme quoted a "refer to underwriter" case.

They will still give you a list of people to phone up, I still think it's always worth checking out an internet quote over the phone. Sometimes the price gets cheaper - especially if you have come from an aggregate - somtimes not (More Than give me a bigger price over the phone a couple of years ago). SOmetimes, it's even worth putting in the details again if the broker has their own website, you might get access to a better scheme/insurer for your risk.

What it boild down to is how much you can be bothered. The more effort you put in, the "better" quote you will find. (note: Cheaper is not always better. no point in paying next to nothing if you end up with bad endorsments and xs's, or a broker that has really bad claims handling)

My broker recommendation is currently Greenlight, but your mileage may vary.. :D

I'd only use those comparison sites as a guide.

Cheapest fully comp quote I got returned from them was £783 on both Confused and Money Supermarket.

Looked on the Tesco website (which those comparison sites don't include) and got a quote for £710.
