I'm looking for a fan controller to reduce my PC's noise. However, they all seem to be manual with dials for each fan. Is there anything which is more automatic? Surely it's possible to plug a fan controller into the motherboard and have it read the temperature or at least have its own temperature sensor inside the case to determine when to speed up/slow down the fans?

Bitfenix Recon is such a fan controller. It's automatic, has 5 channels and has 5 temperature probes. Works well enough.

Aquacomputer Aquaero, pricey but they are amazing, if your not bothered about a display get the aquaero 5LT they all use aquasuite software.

THe Aquacomputer controller is fair amount more than I was hoping to spend, however the Bitfenix Recon is far more sensibly priced and looks like it does exactly what I need. I don't want anything too fancy, just the to suit the needs of making my PC quieter when it can be and without having to manually adjust anything.

I have the recon, Im pleased with it and it certainly quietened it down! I always have it on auto, unless Im running a benchmark program then set everything to max.
