Is there any differences between the 160 and 320 gig PS3's apart from the size of the memory?

Hi, my friends PS3 packed in the other week and hes going to buy another. Hes only needing the console (no games)

A site on the net are selling a 160 gig K model and a 320 gig. The 320 gig is only £10 more so seems a good deal. £176.95 for 160 - £186.95 for the 320

Are there any differences between the 2 consoles other than memory or will there be differences between them as the 160 gig is a K model?

cheers,

To confim, zip all difference.

When you say a K model what do you mean?

The only possible difference is only related to the fabrication size of the chips. A newer one would have smaller chips which use less electricity and make less heat but also have a smaller fan.

Make no difference to anything other than that though.

this is from the website, i guess it is just a hardware upgrade

Sony Playstation 3 "K" Model

Some background on the change:

In early 2011, a core requirement standard change to Blu-ray players was approved by the Blu-ray Association. This change required that all new Blu-ray players that have a model change need to come into the marketplace with the requirement that in order to play Blu-ray movies in high definition, they must utilize a HDMI cable.

Moving forward:

The PS3 "K" chassis model will only play Blu-ray disc movies in high definition via a HDMI Cable. Component Cables used to be able to play Blu-ray disc movies in high definition in the previous models, but they will not be able to do so with the new "K" chassis model.

All previous PS3 chassis model units ("A" thru "J") will still be able to play Blu-ray movies in high definition via HDMI and Component Cable. This functionality will not change.

One important note to remember, the unit comes packed with a standard AV cable in the box. The "K" chassis unit will still be able to play standard DVD and Blu-ray movies, but the output will be in standard definition, not in high definition.

cheers guys

That is the only difference.

It's correct that HD video will only now play over a HDMI connection from the PS3. If your friend connects via HDMI it's not an issue, however if he uses component it will not play HD video content over that connection.

HD gaming is not affected.
