Hi guys,

Is there any free version of MS Office word? and are the documents compatible with each other e.g 03,07 and 10 versions?

Thanks

Libre Office is your best bet. Probably not entirely compatible (smart objects, funky macros, etc), but for the most part Libre Office documents open fine in Word and Word documents open fine in Libre Office.

Other than that, perhaps you can get a discounted license through work or education?

Word 2013 documents should for the most part open in Word 2003 so long as Word 2003 is up to date with patches and service packs and has the Compatibility Pack installed.

there used to be the ad supported version of office 2010 (starter) but thats been discontinued by the looks of it.

Depending on what you need you may be able to do it in via the online versions

+1 for Libre Office, got asked by a freind whom does translation work and realy only uses word, my responce was dont bother with ms office as she would not use most of it, then a load of reserch, and a quick try of Libre Office. the one thing is to do the long instal and choose the languages and dictionarys you need (loads of extra plugings as well), three months later she is happy with it and said its better for her work than office, now just got to get her to use unbuntu!
