Is there any point in making a PC HDMI/HDCP compliant?

OK Guys,

Im getting a FullHD TV as my main monitor next month and considering upgrading my PC so it connects to it via HDMI.

What I need to understand is what PC equipment do I need (want it to pass over audio and video) and is it actually worth it?

My PC is still an A64 x2 so I need to move over to C2Q anyway so I guess I using this as an excuse - my setup is:

Opteron 170
DFI NF4 SLI-DR
2GB DDR1
8800GTS 512MB
Auzentech Prelude
Logitech Z5400
OCZ Powerstream 520W

Anything else you need to know?

TIA

Only if you plan to use the PC for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. It requires HDCP. You just need a graphic card and monitor with HDCP. Doesn't have be 1920x1080 but you'll get the native res of those discs.

I seem to be stalking you badbob - thanks for replying to both my threads on this prospective purchase...

Ive got a X360 HD-DVD Player to use on my PC so not sure what I need except for a HD-DVD software player - will that work just fine or will I be resolution limited? To be honest I dont have many HD-DVDs - I got it as a cheap external DVD player for my prospective netbook so not to bothered...

Im getting the new 80Gb PS3 to do all my Blu-ray stuff - cant see the point of playing HD-DVDs or Blu-rays on the PC - Ill eventually get a BD recorder but thats ages away...

Whats the best GFX card then? I cant see past the 4870s atm - though is it a massive upgrade from my 8800GTS? Remember the move to C2Q will help my setup massively (I hope). How does audio work? Will my Prelude just work or something with HDCP?!?

You should be able to get HDMI out of the 8800gts with the right dvi to hdmi cable though audio would probably need separate cabling (not using nvida at the moment so cant check). all ATi 2000 series onwards are HDMI capable but check you get either a hdmi socket or the special ati dvi to hdmi audio and video adapter in the box.
