Is there any point in upgrading from AMD 7950

what are the specs of the rest of the system?

what resolution / refresh rate do you play at?

What games do you play?

You could buy a rx470 or 480 and they would double your fps from the 7950.
But the 7950 is still a great card, should run most games from 30 to 60 fps depending on what graphic settings you use.

Have you overclocked that 7950?

Those things over clocked like mad. Its a crime to run one at stock.

As above, I'm still happily running my 7950, 1.1GHz on core and 1.35GHz on the memory, still runs things in 1080p on high settings just fine. It's only with the recent games I've noticed it's starting to show its age.

Looking at the newer cards it seems only the 480/1060 and above are the only cards worth upgrading to.

I have an AMD 7950 GPU and I'm thinking about upgrading but I'm not too sure. Any suggestions? Is it still a solid card?

I upgraded from 280X OC to RX480 GTR for my 1080p gaming, I think the extra speed,8GB ram, temps, power usage, efficiency was more then worth it.

Some ppl are mad when they say it is 2017 and haven't you upgraded yet.
You should only upgrade when you think it is time for it. Still some option to downgrade a bit in game to play it perfectly fine.
I am happily run games with GTX 580@1080p. Will have an rx 480 to try but still, i am thinking not to change my card.
Example , doom Battlefield 1 and etc. , doing just fine.

I went from a 7950 to a 980 back in early 2015 and it pretty much doubled my fps in every game. 1060/480 is pretty much same performance as 980 with more memory, 470 would also be a good upgrade on a tight budget.

As previous posters suggested whats the rest of your specs? As if you have a really old i3/fx cpu there may be no point upgrading.

Sure its a decent card, but its not going to be playing anything 2015+ at ultra/60/1080p so it depends what you want, I'm guessing a 7950 really struggles with modern 2016 games above medium settings.

To say that it isn't going to be playing any recent games 60fps ultra is untrue, I just got street fighter 5 and overwatch for christmas both of which are 2016 games and play ultra 60fps on the 7950.

Even a link to back it up,

Why don't you use some basic common sense and at the very least provide useful information like system specs and what games you play and at what resolution when making silly threads like this? It's almost like a troll post.

They are obviously running at 1080p and playing recent games. People have been spouting rubbish about the 7950's performance.

I'm still using a 7950 as above and can pretty much get 60fps at high / ultra settings. Overwatch runs great as does BF1, I had to dial the division back slightly for steady frames.

I'm debating an upgrade but don't see a huge point unless I up my resolution, other than to reduce power use and fan noise.

Im in the same boat as the OP to be honest. Probably going to do a full build at the end of this year but wondering if its worth me propping up my rig in my sig until the end of the year as its not keen on some games eg squad and star citizen both of which it really struggles but its fine with everything else i play.

Rig spec in sig and gaming at 1080p 144mhz

A 7950 is surely showing its age by now. I say hang tight til Vega mid range cards arrive or just be done with 470/480 as the others have suggested. You would be happy with the difference I guarantee that.
