Is there any point me upgrading from an X1900XT?

My system spec is in my sig below.

Finding the trusty Sapphire X1900XT 512Mb card is handling pretty much everything I've thrown at it at good framerate and detail, mainly because I only game at 1440x900 which is the native res of my Octigen 19" widescreen TFT. I'm surprised just how well it's running the likes of STALKER: CLEAR SKY and Crysis.

I am a tight auld git, so usually buy at least one generation behind as far as GPU's go. So was thinking of upgrading to something like an 8800GTX, possibly sourced from the MM.

Is it worth doing?. Would I see a considerable improvement in detail levels and frame rates at 1440x900 with something like an 8800?. Or should I just stick with the X1900XT?.

Conversely, if I should be thinking about upgrading, are there any newer cards that are good bang per buck instead of an older 8800?.

Thanks.

8800GT (£70ish new, £50ish 2nd hand) will give a sizeable improvement over a 1900XT.

You'll be able to add some AA even ;)

8800 are dx10 yes, not that you'll ever use it :D

8800 is a very good boost over a x1900 and they are pittance these days.

I would get a 4850 for just over 100 you will lose little money on it and its a lot faster than a 8800GT.

60 on a GT now is a waste spend the extra 40 and get a 4850

its not a waste if your on a VERY tight budget... i got the 8800gt myself as i couldnt see the point ( yet ) of dx10 ... will do me fine for my dell 2408 for now
