I'm on Nildrams £25.99 "Upto 8mb" service but get nowhere near that amount, looking at my stats should I move back to a 2mb product?

ADSL Exchange Stone Staffs, Staffordshire
Maximum stable rate 3424Kbps
Line speed 2272Kbps
Fault threshold 2396Kbps
Maximum Product Line Speed: upto 8Mbps

Something not right there.

Your current line speed is below the fault threshold and looks suspiciously like a stuck profile.

Can't comment much more without seeing your Attenuation and SNR figures from the modem/router but just on what you've posted so far I'd be inclined to put in a support call and tell them you may have a stuck profile.

This thread was posted ages ago with those details in http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17686103

Need to see the attenuation and SNR as it is now though as SNR in particular will change now you are on a Max product and syncing higher than you were before.

Cheers, will sort it this evening when I'm home

Could you also check your upload speed at the same time?

I have a suspicion that BTW may have put you on to a special profile which caps the upload and download to the same as a 2Mb fixed speed line, easy to prove as the upload speed will give the game away.

OK will give that a whirl!

System Up Time 1320:26:08

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2848 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 60 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 5 db 18 db

OK, that helps, thanks.

The 'good' news is that your sync is back over the fault threshold again but from the looks of the rest of those figures your line quality has deteriorated from when you first moved onto Max so I wouldn't be surprised to see it drop back again.

With a downstream attenuation of 60 dB your sync is about where I'd expect it to be and with a Noise Margin of 5 dB it is only just hanging onto that sync.

If you move back to a fixed rate product it will be more stable but they will not give you 2Mb with those stats, you'd be lucky to get 1Mb frankly :(
