My question is....

Is there any point in me getting a black edition AM2 ??
My 5200 clocks to 3 Ghz, so would i really see any difference in a 3.2 ??

I play games like Need for speed Pro/most wanted, F.E.A.R. ,Unreal 2007
and i will be playing Spore when it finally comes out....
I only see a few drops in FPS, normal in open areas or when there lots going on...

I've got a 8800 GTX as my graphics card

I'm in two minds....

Thanks

Even with the additional cache I really doubt you will see any improvement in gaming with an extra .2ghz

Are the fastest am2 chips pretty much on there clocking limits then? I guess if there anything like the old 939 cpus there was little or no additional overclocking headroom left over with the FX chips unless you were to use extreme cooling.

I should imagine an overclocked one of those new wolfdale intel dual core cpu's would boost your fps in games quite a bit, maybe go in that direction.

example of what a significantly faster cpu can do to crysis playability....

36.730 fps amd opteron 180 @ 2900mhz | nvidia 8800gt 512mb @ 775/1000/1691 | Windows XP 32bit

Just upgraded the CPU to a wolfdale 8500 @ 3.8ghz and now get 44.9 fps, same gpu and gpu settings

Big jumps from quite a slow cpu can make a pretty noticeable difference! even in gpu limited games.

Also another instance was when my friend ran his new hd3870xt on his old amd 3700+ at 2.5ghz and was initially pretty disappointing. Later we switched his system to a 3.2GHz c2d setup. The system was transformed significantly, bioshock and a few other games ran much smoother.

Yer i was going to go Intel, but at the time overclockers had a deal on every thing i needed to get my rig watercooled and running via amd route.
