Is there any point?

My Daughter (Age 12!) is pestering me to buy her GTA4(!) - She loved SA & Vice City (!!) I am safe in the knowledge that she won't be corrupted any more than she already is due to the limitations of my 8800GTS 320 & e2180? :D

I grew up watching 18-rated horror movies and all sorts of other nasties.

I turned out just fine so I wouldn't worry about her.

Can't say the same for the 34 people I've sliced up though.

Whilst this really isn't the place to get into an ethics debate I really hope you are joking - 18 rated Grand Theft Auto games are not the sort of thing to be buying 12 year olds. Although I fully except the 'she doesnt understand it all anyway' get out most parents seem to use.

Seriously, its 18 for a reason. A 12 year old?! Did you really buy her SA? Did she ask you to explain what all the nasty men were doing to your girlfriend under that flyover when she got to that bit? Or why you had to beat somebody to death with a sex toy?

She plays the older GTA games on her brothers PS2 (she does not live with me) alas, there's little I can do to explain to my ex-wife that she should not be playing those sorts of games and more to the point, hoping of any action to remedy the situation by the ex....

Thankfully, she is well aware of the difference between real life & computer games, that said, like you Fox, I do shudder myself at the thought of her playing the missions (which tbh she does not, she likes to drive the cars & bikes around and pretty much not a lot else)

Even if I could persuade the ex to stop this, as my daughter points out, "I can still go to my friends and play GTA 4 on her PS3!

Looking at her "Bebo" page & the profiles of her friends on there tells me that 12year olds of today know way way way too much already.

The GTA series of games corrupting them comes pretty low on the list of worries tbh.

I often wish she were a boy.
