Is there any way to make my overclock downclock in 2D apps?

I'm using the CPU Level Up feature on my Maximus IV Gene Z to overclock my 2500k to 4.6GHz, but I don't know how to make it downclock like it does at stock.

Anyone got any advice?
 
It's pretty straight forward to do using the Turbo ratio etc as on my Asus board. I presume yours has the same.
 
I have a MVG, I thought Levelup worked alongside speedstep etc, so when you weren't using it the OC downgraded to whatever the default clock speed is.

When sitting in desktop what does windows report your clock speed as?
 
I think if you overclock using voltage offset mode and leave turbo mode/speedstep (IEST) on then the CPU will only run overclocked when needed.
