I'm not talking about viruses etc. I have a laptop which I'm going to be taking to uni and I don't want anyone accessing my stuff incase it gets stolen. Since its relatively easy so remove passwords set on user accounts, is there any other way to secure it?

I've got win 7 utimate so wouldn't mind using bit locker, although I'll need to use a usb drive to boot as the laptop lacks tpm (which I thought was standard on new laptops - shuda checked). Isn't bitlocker only useful if it's just the hard drive thats taken? If someone has the laptop won't it just boot normally?

Then set a password? ;)

Truecrypt, and then Windows password on resume in the event it gets stolen while logged in (first thing they are going to do is shut the lid when they nick it)

When they open it up again they'll have to reboot it since they don't know your Windows password and then they'll get hit by the Truecrypt password screen.

You win. Sort of.
