Is there any way I can check whether my PC is running correctly or not? Its just over the past 6 months (I know its been ages but ive been busy etc) its been taking absolutely ages to boot. Its been beyond a joke! Like sometimes its a good 4-5 mins I say! I know its not a big deal I just want to see if its all set up correctly etc.
And its been virus checked and startup programs have been deleted etc.
My set up is...
C2D E6600 627 B stepping
Abit A9 Quad motherboard
2GB Gskill 6400HZ
Windows XP Home

Thanks
John

Is the slow down during the POST or during the load of XP?

If it's the later, it might be worth checking your start-up programs in MSCONFIG, untick anything you don't need.
then re-boot..

next, it might be worth checking your HDs for errors and repairing your system files at the same time too. Just right click on your windows volume, select properties, then click on the tools tab. Click on error checking.. Tick both boxes then ok.. This will perform the check and repair on next re-boot.

Lastly, download Ccleaner and run both the cleaner first then the check/fix registry issues tool.

For starters :)

Its during the load of xp, ive already been through and deleted unwanted startup programs and I use ccleaner everday!
Ill try checking the hard drives tonight, its generally ok when im playing games like cs:s, its just annoying waiting for it to start?

There might be some disk issues then.. Try the scandisk and repair as suggested.. Might also be worth having a defrag too.. (that just sounds wrong hahaha)
