... head gasket on a Saab 95 in the Portsmouth area at my place?

Mine has gone 48 hours after I put up an advert to sell the flipping thing and I need to fix this first. I can get it done at a garage but its £450 minimum and thats £450 dead money that adds no value to the car whatsoever

I really need to change it myself but I'm concerned I won't have all the tools or knowledge to pull it off

Can anyone help me?

Yeah my mechanic did suggest that to me. However there was water in the oil and the header tank is pressurised even when cold

While I don't know the sealing product, i'm just sceptical that this would plug the hole

Its £450 to have it done without the head being skimmed and £600 with it being skimmed

Thats expensive to me right now when i'm trying to raise £5k to pay off my housemates equity in our house. Thats the reason i'm selling the car, and as you can imagine this is a significant blow

Thanks for the offer fella. I've not quite decided what to do yet and need to think things out. Time is a problem for me right now, I hardly have any over the next few weekends

..and its damn cold! ;) :)

CaneyJ: The bit that really worrys me is its chain driven, I don't have any specialist tools if they are required. I do have a Haynes manual but this is above my usual level of expertise although i'm flicking through it now.

lol its a 4 spanner job in the haynes and a very long chapter. certainly doable though if I have all the right tools and the time

Hmmm.....

Update: Right, sod the garage. I'm going to try it myself. My mechanic can't have some sort of mystical skill I don't so i'm going to go step by step through the manual and fix this myself

Quick question though, the oil has water in. What product is best for flushing that all out before I replace with fresh?

Cheers

Yeah i'm getting in touch with some local car enthusiast friends to find out who they have used in the past to get the head checked once I have it off

I also happen to have a bottle of 10w-40 magnetec or something in the shed doing nothing so I could use that to flush out the system and then change it to something more suitable

I know, I thought it was really steep too. I don't think the garage in question do it themselves but rather send it away

Either way I shall take it to somewhere a mate is going to recommend
Thanks for the exhaust tip, hopefully i'll be getting it done the weekend after this one
