Am I right to understand that those are only upgrade packs and not full install?

Or are they the same thing nowadays. I full-installed Vista once from an supposed 'upgrade' disk and it worked fine... it's strange.

You can get the full install, too. £30ish for win7 and the same for office07.

What subject are you studying? You may be eligable for the MSDN AA (Academic Alliance) which gets you pretty much all MS software for free apart from office. (Which you can still get for the £30 discount)

Apple also provide a fairly hefty student discount on both hardware and software, although it's more expensive to begin with.

MSDN AA is the best, tech courses normally have them, free "development" windows 7 mm.
