Is There Anything Better Than My Vision:M 60GB?

I've noticed that my 500PTH's are picking up some distortion every now and then, so am looking at upgrading, which I normally do after having a player for about a year anyway.

I'm after a small player, with video/audio capabilities at least as good as the VM, a radio will be handy, at least 30G capacity, preferably 60G+.

I've been recommended the new 2nd gen 80G Zune, anyone have any experience of these, or any other suitable players?

Thanks.

I have the 30GB version ZV:M from new, and there was an issue where .mp3's suddenly dont sound as good as before, but .wma's will sound fine.

I did a lot of reading and others had same issue, Its solved by refashing the firmware from Recovery Menu (best way) and advise you go for the US not EU version for no Volume Cap.

I would also run the Clean Up from the Recovery Menu (you wont loose any files but may reset layouts).

Sound quality wise, the best player is a 30gb Kenwood imported from Japan which costs far too much money.

I'd go for the Zune 80 myself, but you'll have to buy it through a UK reseller as it isn't out here yet. I'm probably getting one in a few months or so.

I dont see issue what OS its for so long as it flashes your DAP.

Creative ZEN Vision:M 60 GB Firmware 1.21.02 , probably what you have but reflash it and see if sound improves

I had just downloaded that one as you replied and it works fine and I don't know why their website doesn't state Vista compatible.

Still thinking about the Zune though, as the video/audio seems pretty good and the extra battery life and 20G seems handy.

Cheers for your input chaps.:)

What about an Archos media player? I'm guessing price is no object anyway (I would kill for some SE530s). I think Creative are known as one of the best as far as sound quality goes.

Incidentally does anyone know what the best MP3 player is for sound quality? I got some SE310s from my gf and now nothing except my amp is good enough to listen to music from. I thought about B&O but I don't want to pay again for top quality headphones.

The obvious step up would be the Ipod Classic, I went with one myself when my Vision M stopped working and I must say it's an extremely good player.
Allright, Itunes suck, but there are alternatives.
I decided that I would never buy any creative product again due to their horrible driver support and the fact their new line of players just look tacky and cheap in my eyes.
Any company that lets their customers wait for months for a driver so they can use a product they made is inexcusable.

Except the iPod sound quality is poorer in this generation than the last due to an inferiour DAC being used. If you want to use an iPod and want sound quality, you want an "iMod", which has been done to all generations but the latest.

If money really is no object the best is the Kenwood HD60GD9 Media Keg for sound quality, it simply cannot be beaten by any other mp3 player.

I picked up a Zune 2 80Gb in the states last week, and I have to say im very ipressed with it so far. The battery life is amazing (im coming off a gen 3 ipod that was suffering a dieing battery so its even more marked for me), The Zune software works a treat even though I cant sign up for the Zune network stuff because im not american (i'll fix that when im over there next), That part doesnt bother me becasue i dont buy music online anyway due to DRM restrictions and the like I just buy CDs and rip.

The screen quality id very good bright and clear on the stuff ive re-encoded so far.

Only minor issue so far is it doesnt show up as a Device in windows expolrer so i cant use it to dump files on like i used to my Ipod, That used to be very handy for transfering large databases on work trips as a back up incase my laptop got damaged/lifted.

And for $249 US its a cheap as they come, even with taxes and credit card exchange rates its still only £140 and another £40ish for the car kit.

I'm goingt o mess around with the wireless stuff when i get home tonight maybe it will save my jet lag.

The big problem that I have with Creative is that none of their players supports lossless, which is a very stupid decision by them.

Its a DAP/mp3 player, a happy medium, if you want Lossless use your Hifi and CD's :)

I very much doubt you can tell the difference on a DAP with good quality 192k or above .mp3.

Or better still go .WMA and 1/2 the battery life.

Looks like CES08 hasn't come up with anything special so far, so the Zune is looking like a good bet at the moment, pity though, a lot of people were hoping for Creative to release a replacement for the VM.:(
