Is there anything to replace my 1090t yet?

Just thought i would ask this question. Last time i asked the answer was pretty much no.

So, same mobo, I have a 7850 2gb at the moment. My processor is running very hot these days even after cleaning my case out. It's a bit slower than it used to be.

I'm mainly playing pCars/Assetto Corsa/IL2 BoS. Frames are ok on highest settings, playable, but I really would like a CPU that strains less and runs cooler.

Is there anything worthy? Thanks chaps ;)

What motherboard do you have?

Edit. Just seen your sig.. BRB......

AMD FX 8320 would be a nice upgrade. Your board should do anything up to 4.4ghz.

Your board lists support for the 8320 and the e is simply a silicon refresh with a lower power draw so you may even get to 4.5ghz or so. Well worth it IMO. Especially as it's a drop in upgrade.

What cooler is the 90t using?
And how hot is it actually reaching? Try reseat the cooler with some new tim.
I'm not sure if a standard fx8 would benefit you that much in those games you've highlighted, unless you intend to upgrade the gpu aswell?

As you have a pretty good motherboard and the piledriver silicon has been far less leaky in the last year, (less voltage required to scale to (4.6ghz+) then buying an fx8 and having a play with clocking it might help you out. If you needed to buy an am3+ motherboard aswell as an fx8 then i'd advise you to buy into an intel system.
Hope you have a reasonably good cpu cooler though.

That processor looks like a real bargain i'll do some research in to it thank you :)

I'm on the stock cooler with my 1090t. The overclock has been the same since I built it a few years ago. I used to get temps around 45-50c under load, but now i'm getting up to 60c.

I think i will actually try some fresh TIM and see if that improves things, good idea :)

Maybe if the temps come back down I will upgrade GPU?

Also, is there a drop in cooler to replace the stock? No mods required?

Thanks very much chaps :)

If you mean without the hassle of removing motherboard to change backplate, then the cooler master hyper t4, comes with a loading clamp, like a stock cooler clamp. But for not a lot more money there are much better air coolers but most require backplate changes. Buy it once and do it right and use it on future intel/ amd builds.

But change your tim and clean your heatsink vanes out first for a try.

Thanks mate. Is changing the back plate easy to do? I would like an effective cooler as you say for future use too.

I'll take a look at the cooler master though :)

I have the 8320E and have it stable under load at 4.4GHz @ 1.32v

4.6GHz attempt: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=27241684&postcount=16
4.4GHz stable: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=27241927&postcount=17

Removing the back plate is easy. All my previous chips I've gone with stock coolers or ones that didn't require the backplate removed. So the 8320E was my first time swapping out the backplate to use a Phanteks. Was easy enough to do. Just take your time and follow the instructions.

Any i5/i7 from Sandy onwards. DC is where it's at in terms of gaming at the moment. X99 for more extreme builds.

Don't bother with AMD CPUs, AMD don't seem to either, and I am not trolling. They haven't released a new performance product in a over a year and a half now.

To be honest i will probably go for a new build in the next 12-18 months and if trends continue I will go with Intel, purely because they seem to perform better at the sort of games i run (simulators). That said, my 1090t is an excellent chip so can't fault AMD for that.

Just a small update as i'm very pleased. Today I bought and installed a Blizzard T2 cooler and gave my chip a good clean and applied new thermal paste. Idle temps are down to 30c! That's with fan profiles all on low! I will update with load temps later, as obviously that will be the real test. But it just goes to show what a little maintenance and a basic cooler upgrade can achieve. :)

You won't get a huge boost from an fx 8xxx @4.5 tbh, In gaming anyway. The IPC of the phenom is actually a little bit better, but the Fx can clock higher.

I'd try replacing the Tim, and try getting the most you can out of the base clock before adjusting the multiplier.

I had a go last night with a 1040T I picked up for £50. It does 4ghz with ease with 300 bclk @1.42v. You might be able to get higher with that multiplier.

But yeah, If anything I'd be upgrading the GPU before the CPU as it won't be holding back a 7850.

Unless a modern instruction set it used, then the FX83 would take the lead as far as performance per clock goes.

nots true guys. I have most experience with both chips AMD+Intel (I have 4 active PCs) and I can easealy switching between next maybe 20 CPUs what I have in my colection.
No, in normal using is not performance difference between exampel i7 Ivy Bridge and FX-8350. Subjectively really not. In some behcmakrs is FX better in some i7 is better. Of course, there are bonus in power consumption for Intel and some games as MMORPGs. But in actions games is difference not much big.

In which benchmark is the fx8350 faster than the 5820k, 5830k or 5960x? Some imaginary benchmark I presume.

Im talking about competive CPUs, FX are not against X79 or X99 (how 8 threads can beat 12 or more threads, its impossible), but against 4C/8T CPUs in LGA1155/1150. Remmeber, today is FX Vishera over 2 years old (0.5 year after IB chips) from launch day and architecture is 3.5 years old (BD FX).
FX-8000 are 4CU/8C so its similar as 4C/8T by Intel ussually.
