Is there anything wrong with XP's defragmenter?

I'm about to defrag a 40GB HDD. It's hasn't been defragged in the last 5 years. Is there anything wrong with XP's built in defragmenter? Is there a better, free alternative?

XP's defragmenter is quite slow and doesn't give the performance benefits of some commerical defrags. All XP's one does is defragment the files, but it will place them anywhere on the drive it can find enough free space.

I usually use Raxco PerfectDisk, it's very good, but it's not free. O&O is supposedly very good as well, I don't know how much it costs. I'm not aware of any free ones, but I haven't looked in a while.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already started using Auslogics and I don't think it would be a good idea to stop halfway through. So far it seems pretty good. It's noticeably faster than the standard defragmenter.
