is there monitor coming out to rival rog swift?

as the title says is there any monitors in the pipe line coming out to challenge
the asus rog swift ie 1440p with gsync.

ive been thinking about buying the swift for a while now but today i was thinking something else will come out soon that might challenge it, maybe with a va panel which i think would be better because their should be better viewing angels
 
There have been some articles floating around regarding new g-sync units but we're also expecting free-sync to be released sometime in November.

It may be worth waiting for this before making your choice.

what do you mean by new g-sync units? newer version of g-sync or new monitors with g-sync?

have you got a link to any of the articles?

knowing my luck as soon as i buy the rog swift a new one will come out with a va panel which i would prefer to have
 
I don't have anything on my phone to hand but I suggest you wait as Freesync is due in November. Its also been reported that the nVidia cards will support this tech. This means the technology could be far cheaper in comparison to gsync enabled monitors.

That is a false rumour that has been denied by Nvidia's Tom Petersen.

As to the original question, the panel in the ROG SWIFT is manufactured by AU Optronics - whose parent company is BenQ. Undoubtedly they will have something up their sleeves but I wouldn't expect to see it until next year. There is also a 144Hz AHVA (IPS-type) panel on the way and a monitor using that could theoretically use G-SYNC. I had great fun reviewing the ROG SWIFT though and there will always be something else around the corner no matter how long you wait. As somebody else pointed out.

I thought the dynamic sync was going to be a standard of the display port which meant they had to support it.

It is an optional extension of DP 1.2a, nothing more. Nvidia are on the record as saying they are committed to G-SYNC. They have invested a huge amount of time and resources into developing the technology and are not going to give that all up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cr-GToUHino#t=87m20s for example.

Explains why out the box its ramped up to 7000+k :S (slightly tongue in cheek but probably a serious note there as well) thankfully its possible to get much more balanced colours out of it than the BenQ monitors I've tried.

My review sample wasn't, it was slightly warm in fact. Obviously a lot of variation with the panels though. Some seem to have pretty wonky gamma compared to my sample as well. :(
 
Hmmm think I was thrown a bit by how bright and bleached it was out the box - given the reddish tinge it was probably warmer than 7000+.

Your ICC/OSD settings have pretty much sorted it out other than the gamma still needs a bit of tweaking.

No, there is a big question mark over how responsive the monitors can be and whether the pixel responsiveness will be good enough to make a good go of 144Hz. But the ROG SWIFT only achieves '1ms' on a fairly limited range of pixel transitions anyway, it averages 3ms using its 'normal' OD setting which is still as good as it needs to be for 144Hz. So we'll have to wait and see how these 144Hz AHVA panels turn out.
