Is there such a monitor?

Apart from the one martian listed there is also this one:

The only other screen that fits the requirements is this:

unfortunately it is also 40 quid over your max budget. It does have the wow factor in design though :D

Hope that helps. Bear in mind this is just from OCUK's product range, there may be other monitors sold elsewhere that also fit your requirements

To be fair the speakers you'd get in that monitor will be BARELY audible, you're much better off getting a good monitor with no speakers and get a set of £30-40 speakers that will give much better SQ.

I know, but I'm looking for a solution that takes up as little desk space and has as little wiring as possible.

My dilemma is that I already have a decent monitor that could be used - a Dell U2312.

You can get a sound bar for this.

But then I'm not sure how to do the connectivity.

I want an XBox connected permanently and free wires to connect a Laptop as required.

The U2312 has two inputs VGA and DVI which are both video only. I'm not sure whether these can be connected at the same time and you just switch between them. Alternatively, I could use an HDMI auto switcher with an HDMI<>DVI-D adapator but that only sorts out the audio.

With the sound bar, the monitor powers it but it has a 3.5 mm stero jack on a lead for input. If we were just talking one source that would be easy but I have both an XBox and a Laptop.
I suppose if I could make sure only one was on at a time I could use a Y-Lead, but what would happen if they were both one - would the two audios simply be mixed or could it cause damage. Besides it is getting a bit messy at this point.

Cheers,

Nigel

maybe a TV might be a better solution in this scenario?

I know I started off with a TV but was getting a terrible picture.

But I think the guys on another post may have solved this by providing details of what needs to be done - none of which appears in any form in the TV manual.

Cheers,

Nigel
