I am wondering if these exist yet? Its obviously the direction technology is going and i am hoping one exists and has good response times, contrast ratios etc? So... anyone aware of any being made?

No one ? :(

That's a shame I think they would rock for games, especially RPGs with yer icons around the screen etc.

It would be an interesting approach and very effective to boot but i'm not sure i'd want my finger prints all over the screen.

My DS is bad enough and that's tiny! :p :D

Seen a kit to turn a 19" into a touchscreen for about £80, also seen this - Elo Entuitive 2420L 24" TouchScreen LCD - but that's over £700.

Touchscreens are basic monitors with a 'array' overlay, so in effect you could use ANY tft with a touchscreen. If you wanted a custom job maybe contact a manufacturer, no reason why you couldn't have say a Dell 2407 with an overlay.

IIRC you can get films ect that are custom sides that turn any monitor into a touchscreen

That might work with a CRT or glass fronted LCD, but I would hate to be pressing the soft LCD (through the touch film), for fear of damaging it.

There are various types of touch screen:
Capacitive (very good accuracy, but only works with finger and is quite expensive), made from glass.
Resistive (good accuracy and can work with finger, pen, pretty much anything), made from glass.
Surface Acoustic Wave (good accuracy, works with anything, but is susceptible to interference), made from glass.
Infra Red (average accuracy, works with anything), doesn't need glass but is recommended.

Largest capacitive touch I have seen is 32" wide, but I think you could get one up to 57".
The 32" touch screen on it's own (no monitor) is a couple of hundred quid.
